What Motorists Should Know about California Car Insurance
When many people think about California, they picture beautiful beaches and endless summers. While some of the Golden State does boast year-long sunshine, the mountains are known for their great winter weather. When exploring these areas of higher elevation, you need to make concessions to the different driving conditions or you may be filing a claim on your California car insurance sooner than you think.
According to the California Department of Transportation, there are certain requirements all drivers must abide by. The use of snow chains is included in these regulations. During certain weather, chains or other traction devices are required on all vehicles. There will be signs displayed along the highway that advise drivers when chains are required. Ignoring these could lead to citations and fines by the California Highway Patrol. When pulling over to put on your tire chains, be sure not to block traffic or be in an area where you could be at risk of being hit by an oncoming car.
Because snow can fall unexpectedly in the California Mountains, chains can be called into use any time authorities deem it necessary. To be prepared for such a situation, you should carry snow chains in your car every time you go up into the mountains. Before a trip into the winter wilds, it may also be wise to check your California car insurance, to ensure you have adequate coverage.
