Trampoline's are fun but are they covered!
If you have kids you have received that request from your children to please buy a trampoline. Although these items are a lot of fun they can be dangerous. Even if you purchase the ones that have the protective net around them that does not eliminate the exposure. Below are 2 examples of actual trampoline claims that have been filed.
A recent birthday party held for a 5 year old generated around 45 people coming to his home to celebrate his special day. While the parents were waiting for all the guests to arrive one of the kids around age 9 that came to the party with his parents decided he was going to try his skateboard tricks by jumping from the trampoline and bouncing off the side of the house. While doing this he fell between the trampoline and the house breaking his leg. What started off to be a fun day turned into a lawsuit against the parents holding the party.
One summer day 3 high school kids were at home while their parents were at work. They decided to do extreme stunts off the roof of the house. By jumping from the roof and onto the trampoline they were able to jump real high and do some great tricks. After doing this for about a half hour one of the boys jumped from the roof and right through the trampoline. It had split at one of the seams. There was major damage to the boys leg causing him to be in a cast for 12 weeks.
There are so many factors to consider when letting other people use your trampoline when they come to your home. You first should check to make sure that there is not an automatic exclusion on your homeowner's policy. For a review of your coverage please give our office a call.
